To use OCR, it’s important to make sure that the file you want to run OCR on is a PDF, and that the text is typed, rather than handwritten. Unfortunately, OCR isn’t designed to recognize handwriting, and can’t produce a copy of handwritten text. If you’re scanning a document for the purpose of running OCR, it’s also important to ensure the image of the document is clear enough for the OCR engine to read. The recommended image resolution for OCR accuracy is 300 dpi (dots per inch).

If you have access to Adobe Acrobat Pro, follow these 4 steps to run OCR on your PDF. Adobe also offers a free OCR tool on their website, that allows users to upload files for text extraction.
